Pedagogy Around the World
Feminist Pedagogy is being discussed and practiced
in many parts of the world and within various cultures. In the United States
there is debate about whether or not Feminist Pedagogy makes connections across
all cultures. Below are some tips on how to make sure that all cultures are
being heard in your classroom.
Allow Every Voice in the Classroom to be Heard
Encourage discussion about the ways in which
society tends to speak for one race or sex as if they are all the same.
Bring in resources and activities that teach
students about different cultures so they can see into a world that is unlike
their own.
Coordinate diversity groups with other teachers and
administrators so that acceptance is a school wide issue. Here is an example of
a diversity club organized by a high school. http://www.roundrockisd.org/mcneil/clubs/diversity/index.htm
Invite speakers with different cultures to talk
with students about their own experiences. This may help students warm up to
discussion about these delicate topics.
Have students speak to teachers about diversity
during staff development.
