iMovie

CAPTURING VIDEO

At the end of the video capture process, clips will appear automatically in the iMovie clips pane. Each pause during filming results in a new clip.

ADDING A CLIP TO A MOVIE

Drag clip from the clips pane to the viewer. To move multiple clips, press Shift, select clips, and drag just as you would a single clip.

DELETING A CLIP FROM A MOVIE

Highlight the clip in the clip viewer and drag it to the trash located in iMovie.

SEQUENCING CLIPS

Highlight the clip in the clip viewer and drag left or right. You will see that the other clips will move out of the way for you to insert it.

EDITING CLIPS
  1. With the clip highlighted in the clip viewer, move the triangle-shaped markers on the blue scrubber bar directly below the monitor window.
  2. Move marker(s) to the place you want to begin and/or end the clip.
  1. Select Edit > Crop to remove the part of the video represented by the blue part of the bar or press the Delete key to remove the part of the video represented by yellow.
SPLITTING CLIPS
  1. Slide the playhead on the top of the blue scrubber bar to the place you want to divide the clip.
  2. Select Edit > Split Video Clip at the Playhead.
ADDING PHOTOS
  1. Click the Photos button. The iPhoto Library will open automatically.
  2. Choose an image and drag it to the clip viewer.
ADDING AUDIO TRACKS
  1. Click the Audio button. The iTunes Library will open automatically.
  2. Choose an audio clip.
  3. Place the playhead where you would like the audio to begin playing.
  4. Click on the Place at Playhead button.
  5. Move the playhead to the beginning of the movie and click on the Play button to preview the movie.
ADDING TITLES
  1. Click on the Titles button.
  2. Choose a style and enter the title information in the space provided at the bottom of the Titles pane. (It probably says My Great Movie.)
  3. Click on the Preview button at the top of the Titles pane to see what the title will look like.
  4. Insert the title by dragging the name of the title style into the clip viewer where you want the title to appear.
ADDING TRANSITIONS
  1. Click on the Transitions button.
  2. Choose a transition style.
  3. Click on the Preview button at the top of the Transitions pane to see what the title will look like.
  4. Insert the transition by dragging the name of the transition style into the clip viewer between the two clips that you are connecting.
ADDING EFFECTS
  1. Highlight the clip you want to apply the effect to.
  2. Click on the Effects button.
  3. Select an effect and preview the selection by clicking on the Preview button.
  4. Click on the Apply button.
EXPORTING YOUR MOVIE
  1. Select File > Share. A new window will open.
  2. Select Quicktime.
  3. Click on the blue button to the right of the Compress Movie For: dialogue box.
  4. Select a quality according to the file size you need. Email has the smallest file size and lowest quality, and Full Quality DV has the highest quality and largest file size.
