Introduction to Tutorial Planning

Planning for the tutorial requires an enormous investment of effort. In order to be responsive in your teaching you must be aware of where your child is in their reading development. Your assessments will guide your planning.

You will need to select and often create support materials for the tutoring sessions that offer opportunity for your student to engage deeply and grow strategically in their literacy.

Finally, your planning will become the basis for your reflection as you look back, both during and after the lesson, to consider what you intended and anticipated in relation to what happened. If you use reflection carefully as a strategy your student will emerge as your best teacher. This is a lesson that will carry you far in your teaching career.
