Format: Parents and educators will transition between a classroom lecture and activities with their child. Children will remain in the care of UT students at all times, engaged in play activities, lunch, and recreation.

Cost: $30.00 per educator or clinician/therapist; $40.00 for 1-2 parents of the child (and the child)
***UTAP has made an arrangement with RRISD in exchange for use of the facility. If your child attends a RRISD school you may be eligible to attend for free. We are reserving 8 slots per date for RRISD families, and the educators who serve them. IF you wish to pay the registration fee, or make a donation to UTAP, many families will benefit from your generosity. Donations may be made on the UTAP web site.

Food: We will be ordering sandwiches and pizzas for lunch. If you or your child requires a special diet, please bring a lunch. We continue our program during lunch, so there is no time to leave campus.

More about the workshop:

The education of children, particularly those children with disabilities, is most successful when children, their parents, teachers, and university students preparing to become teachers work together on common goals and a common curriculum. Today we invite you to participate in a community collaboration – a family play day - centered on a curriculum of play. In play lies the opportunity to promote sensory and motor integration. The link between physical play and sensory experience is essential for a child's successful development in social, academic, and physical skills. Play is what children do – all children – even children with autism or other disabilities. Play is a powerful tool for communication and education. And, the activities you see and experience today are great for the whole family.

Sensory and Motor Integration informational play-day workshops have been provided through the Texas Region Education Service Centers for ten years. The workshops have proven to be a great opportunity for families to engage in meaningful play activities together. Parents learn how to speak to their child’s behavior and needs through their sensory systems, and to understand how meaningful play activities today can assist their child in becoming a functional adult in the future. The trainings will be held on the Blackland Prairie Elementary school campus in Round Rock ISD. Lunch, handouts, and supplies provided.

Registration: If you are interested in participating in a workshop, please contact Rutvi Shah at UTAP@austin.utexas.edu or 232-1715.
