Freshman Seminar 301: Personal and Interpersonal Leadership

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to enhance students' personal and interpersonal effectiveness. The main portion of the course will focus on the book, "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". In addition, students will also experience the online program "Building Resilience and Learning to Thrive". Because the course will include class discussion, experiential activities, and videotapes, class attendance is extremely important. The course has no prerequisites, is open to freshman students of all majors, and contains a substantial writing component.

COURSE GOALS
1. Enhance personal and interpersonal effectiveness through an understanding of the
"Seven Habits of Highly Effective People"
2. Develop a personal mission statement
3. Identify the dimensions of wellness, as well as understand and experience how each dimension enhances your overall well-being
4. Understand and use effective coping strategies for dealing with stress
5. Enhance your foundation of personal resilience by taking responsibility, focusing on empowering interpretations, and creating meaningful connections
6. Enhance your ability to perceive potentially stressful situations as challenges rather than threats
7. Enhance your understanding and experience of self-leadership
