4.2 Determining Mustang ISD's Current Situation

In the previous lessons, we've learned about the role of technology in learning and new models of learning with technology. In this lesson we will consider what it takes for effective technology integration within the school and the extent to which your school has successfully infused technology throughout the teaching and learning process. To accomplish this task will require that you examine the following elements related to your school:

  • student performance data
  • available hardware and software resources
  • state standards for student and teacher technology competency
  • current levels of technology use and competency of staff
  • staff technology training and technical support needs

What does it take to make technology work?

What are the conditions necessary for technology to work in schools?

  1. Teachers and students must have access to technology.
  2. Access to the Internet and communication capabilities must be available to access libraries, museums and libraries across the street and across the globe.
  3. High quality content must be available for the classroom.
  4. Teachers must understand and know how to use technology.
