4.1 Introduction - Needs Assessment and Data Analysis

In the previous modules, you have considered the trends and issues in technology and learning and developed a powerful vision of technology and learning for your school. Your vision statement represents your intended destination and your technology plan represents a road map to help get you there. Before you plan the journey, however, it is important to know where you are. In this module you will assess the current situation by reviewing the state and national standards to be met, reviewing the student performance data in your school and identifying the technology resources available in your school. Once you understand the current levels of student performance, the state and national standards to be met as well as the technology resources available within your school, you are then ready to begin the process of assessing the needs to be addressed in your technology plan.

In this module, you will:

  • analyze student performance data and trends in your school.
  • determine the technology resources for your school.
  • identify the major stakeholders who will become a part of the needs assessment process.
  • develop a communications plan.
  • identify the areas that will need to be addressed in a comprehensive needs assessment.

Objectives

The objectives for this module are for you to:

  • analyze student performance data and trends within your school to establish curriculum priorities for your plan.
