Activity Summary

Children learn how to create geometrical shapes without templates or specialized tools.

Mathematical Goals

This activity focuses on constructing shapes and understanding their properties, rather than just recognizing or copying them.

Lesson Duration

1-2 hours.

Materials

You will need:

  • String
  • Thick corrugated cardboard or foamboard
  • Paper (also chart or butcher paper if you plan to do a large-sized mural)
  • Pencils
  • Scissors
  • Pushpins
  • Unmarked ruler or another straight edge
  • Painting and decorating supplies
  • An activity handout per student (included in the Lesson Kit)
