HomePartnerships in Education and Research (PER) Supplement to the VaNTH ERC in Bioengineering Educational Technologies Objectives and Specific Aims - Background - Redesign of VaNTH Modules - Significance The PER program will further develop the collaborative relationship between the Austin and San Antonio Independent School Districts, The University of Texas at Austin and VaNTH ERC. In addition, this PER will promote bioengineering graduate students’ continued involvement in outreach to K-12 classrooms throughout their scientific careers. The results of these teachers’ curriculum redesign will carry credence in the educational community, and will improve the likelihood that other teachers will enact this curriculum in their classrooms. In addition, the positive experience we expect these teachers to have will attract other teachers to participate in other K-12 outreach curriculum design efforts in VaNTH’s domain areas. The work of the teachers will be invaluable in allowing us to re-examine exactly how college students can be helpful to pre-college science teaching. The work of the bioengineering graduate students will help us learn how to structure future outreach integration into classrooms. These efforts should lead to a body of materials and activities that can be used broadly to improve the articulation between college and pre-college science and help improve instruction and interest of students from many backgrounds in science. |
