6:00 am to 2:00 pm. 30 volunteers needed for each shift.

Description:
The Marathon Kids Final Celebration. At this event we celebrate the end of a challenge that the kiddos took to finish a marathon by February, running/walking one mile at a time. At the Final Mile Medal Celebration they run 1-2 ceremonial laps at Austin ISD's Toney Burger Stadium and receive a congratulatory Marathon Kids Finishers Medal. Believe or not, there are 10,000 people at 9 a.m. and then 10,000 more at 11 a.m.

As you can imagine, an event like this relies heavily upon volunteer power...so we need your help. We have jobs ranging from Start Line "cattle-herding", to handing out medals, to cheering on the little runners. You can't imagine how fun and inspiring this event is and we'd love for you to be a part of it!

Volunteer Info:

  • Wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. All volunteers will be given an Official Marathon Kids Volunteer T-shirt to wear at the event and keep.
  • The event is rain or shine, so dress appropriate for the weather.
  • Check in at the volunteer table located at the front entrance 10 minutes prior to your scheduled shift. You will be given a job description at the volunteer table.
  • DO NOT BRING VALUABLES!

If you're a returning volunteer, or have great leadership qualities, I'm always looking for captains to help out with each volunteer group. Please let me know if this is something you may be interested in. You and a friend can sign up together!

The available shifts are: 6am-8am (set-up); 8am-10am (set-up and event); 10am-12pm (event); 12pm-2pm (event and break-down); 8am-1pm (all day). If you are available to work multiple shifts, please let me know. The less turnover of volunteers, the more smoothly things run.
