I would like to acknowledge and thank Teresa Secules who has been
invaluable in the implementation of Schools for Thought (SFT) in Nashville,
and the teachers and students in our SFT classrooms. James Pellegrino,
Dean of Peabody College, has been instrumental in obtaining community
support for the project and stimulating the intellectual agenda of Learning
Communities in Nashville. I would also like to thank John Bransford, Susan
Goldman, Mary Lamon, Kay Burgess, and Jim Johnston for their constant
support and encouragement throughout Mission to Mars implementation in
Nashville. Special mention to my colleague, Dan Hickey, who did the
essential work on the video and conceptual framework of the original Mars
Mission Challenge. Sections on Unifying Themes and Benchmarks owe a great
deal to the thoughts and reflections of Ann Brown, Joe Campione, and Doris
Ash. Finally, I must thank Carolyn Stalcup, without whose valuable
creative support this final product would not have been realized.
