PREAMBLE
In order to recruit and support minority students who aspire to enter the education profession, we the members of Minorities In Education 
do hereby ordain and establish this Constitution.
Article I – NAME
The name of this organization shall be Minorities In Education of The University of Texas at Austin.
Article II – OBJECTIVES
Section 2.01     To assist the University in the recruitment of minority students.
Section 2.02     To prepare minority students for careers in education.
Section 2.03     To aid in the retention and advancement of enrolled minority students interested in educational careers.
Section 2.04     To provide a casual and social atmosphere for members of Minorities In Education  to work with professionals and 
                          other students in the field of education.
Article III – MEMBERSHIP
Section 3.01     Definition
(a.)  A member is a student who is entitled to devote their time and submit ideas on ways to improve the organization while 
       developing into a professional educator.
Section 3.02     Membership Requirements
(a.)  You must be a student enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin.
(b.)  Membership will be granted upon acceptance of membership application.
(c.)  Payment of annual dues.
(d.)  Participation in a minimum of 4 hours in MIE events.
 Section 3.03     Membership Benefits
(a.)  All members shall have equal opportunity growth.
(b.)  All members shall gain individual career awareness.
(c.)  All members shall have access to various professionals and resources in the field of education.
(d.)  All members shall have the privilege of voting and holding office after one year of membership commitment.

Section 4.01     Voting
(a.)  Any decision(s) must be made by a two-thirds majority.
ARTICLE V – EXECUTIVE BOARD
Section 5.01     The Executive Board shall consist of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Publicist.
Section 5.02     The duties of the Executive Board shall be to carry out the objectives of the organization and to create such committees as deemed necessary to implement its goals.
Article VI – OFFICERS
Section 6.01   Name of Officers
(a.)  President
(b.)  Vice-President
(c).  Secretary
(d.)  Treasurer
(e.)  Publicist
Section 6.02     Duties
(a.)  The President Shall:
i.      Preside at all meetings of this organization and of the Executive Board.
ii.     Enforce the observance of the constitution.
iii.    Conduct events which coincide with this organization’s objectives.
iv.    Call special meetings as deemed necessary with Executive Board approval.
v.     Perform such duties as may be delegated by the Executive Board.
(b.)  The Vice-President Shall:
      i.      Act as an aid to the President.
      ii.     Preside at meetings in the absence, or at the request of the President.
      iii.    Maintain a journal of past activities, programs, and achievements.
      iv.    Oversee all committees.
      v.     Perform such duties as may be delegated by the President or the Executive Board.
 (c.)  The Secretary Shall:
      i.      Record the minutes of every meeting.
      ii.     Carry on intraorganization correspondence.
      iii.    Keep an accurate, up-to-date count of membership at all times.
      iv.    Provide committees with any reports.
      v.     Perform such duties as may be delegated by the President or the Executive Board.
(d.)  The Treasurer Shall:
      i.      Be in charge of and responsible for all funds of this organization, including the collection of membership dues.
      ii.     Make disbursements and keep written accounts of all transactions.
      iii.    Perform such duties as may be delegated by the President or the Executive Board.
(e.)  The Publicist shall:
      i.      Write all public articles for and concerning the organization in conjunction with the President.
      ii.     Publicize information concerning the activities of the organization.
      iii.    Perform such duties as may be delegated by the President of the Executive Board.
Section 6.03     Elections
(a.)  Election of officers will be held annually in April.
(b.)  Members running for office should be in good academic standing.
(c.)  Only active and paid members may vote for new officers
(d.)  In order to run for office you must have served at least one academic year in this organization.
ARTICLE VII B MEETINGS
Section 7.01     Meetings shall be held on a regular basis according to the schedule determined by the Executive Board
Section 7.02     The Executive Board shall have the authority to call additional meetings as deemed necessary to conduct the business of 
                          this organization.
Section 7.03     The Executive Board attendance is mandatory unless given early notification of absence to the President.
Section 7.04     Members are not required but are encouraged to attend all meetings.
ARTICLE VIII –AMENDMENTS
The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of the Executive Board, provided notice of such amendments shall have 
been given to the members at a previous meeting.
ARTICLE IX –Dissolution and Succession
Section 9.01     In the event that an officer resigns or is removed, the line of succession is as follows:
(a.)              President, Vice-President, and Secretary.
(b.)              Otherwise, the Advisor of this organization shall appoint as necessary.
