Santa Clara Day School is a Pueblo Indian school near Espanola, New Mexico. This QTVR panorama was created by 4th and 5th graders. The school uses the garden as a part of its cultural program. A great deal of Pueblo culture and values are passed on to children learning how to raise important plants in the traditional way, under the guidance of tribal elders. Here is a description written by fifth graders, Kara and Galvin.
Our garden is divided into four sections like the four directions with a designed pole in the center of the circle. The first section had marigolds, plants for dyes, mostly herbs, and an old building in the background. Section two had pumpkins, gourds, flowers, squash, and behind that is another old building. Section three had sunflowers, cucumbers, and behind that is the compost pile. Section four had tomatoes, onions, chili, flowers, carrots, strawberries, cabbage, sunflowers, and behind that you can see the building where garden tools are stored.
