Turntable Made Using Lazy Susan Hardware

- First obtain the materials for your turntable. For this particular turntable
the following items were used:
- 3/4 ince plywood cut to the appropriate sizes: A 16 inch square for the
base, a 15 1/2 inch circle for the turntable, and a 12 inch circle for the
pedestal.
- A 12 inch diameter lazy susan hardware. (This was obtained at Home Depot,
but similar hardware can be ordered off the Internet.)
- 2 floor flange plates and matching 10 inch threaded pipe for attaching the
pedestal.
- Wood screws and sheet metal screws carefully selected for appropriate size.

- After painting the plywood parts their final color (flat black), you may
use a protractor to help find positions for the index marks at 10 degree intervals.

- Follow the lazy susan hardware instructions carefully. You will use specific
holes in the lazy susan hardware to locate where to drill guide holes in the
base and turntable. Attach the lasy susan hardware to the base, first. You
will need to take care to get the pieces centered. If your base is a square,
the diagonals will pass through the four screw holes in the lazy susan hardware,
helping you find where to drill the guide holes for the wood screws.

- Attach the turntable to the top side of the lazy susan hardware. Laying
the turntable precisely on the lazy susan hardware for attaching can be tricky.
Try putting long nails through the holes and using them to help guide you
to the proper holes in the lazy susan hardware. Attach with the size of sheet
metal screws recommended in the lasy susan hardware instructions. Length is
very important. The ends of the screws should not scrape the bottom of the
hardware.

- Next, center and attach the floor flange hardware to the center of the turntable
using wood screws. The picture shows the 10 inch pipe for the pedestal also
attached.

- Attach the second floor flange to the center of the pedestal, and screw
the pedestal to the other end of the threaded 10 inch pipe. This is what the
completed turntable looks like. Notice the finishing nail that is positioned
as an indicator.
One thing that is nice about this design is that you can unscrew the pedestal
for easy storage. Also, with the pedestal removed, larger, quite heavy objects
can be placed directly on the turntable. An adult could easily stand on the
turntable for VR modelling. Other sizes of lazy susan hardware exist that may
be used for making turntables of other sizes.
