The EMBED tag for the above QTVR movie has three other useful
parameters. It looks like this:
<EMBED SRC="Movies/UT-Wash.mov" HEIGHT=160 WIDTH=214 SCALE=TOFIT
CACHE=TRUE PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/"></EMBED>
Here, the HEIGHT and WIDTH parameters describe a
rectangle that is about 2/3's the size of the actual VR movie. To get the movie
to fit the rectangle properly, we use the SCALE=TOFIT, which sizes
both dimensions of the VR movie to fit in the availble space. Other values for
this parameter include ASPECT, which fits as much of the available space as
possible while maintaining the aspect ratio of the VR movie. Also a number multiplier
of each dimension can be given (such as .5, which sizes both dimensions of the
original VR movie by half).
CACHE=TRUE tells your browser to save the movie to the browser's
Cache folder after it downloads. This will speed up the displaying of the VR
movie when you return to the page, because it will load from the Cache folder
instead of downloading from the web server again. Depending on how your browser
is set up, CACHE=TRUE may or may not be the default. FALSE
is the other value for this parameter.
The PLUGINSPAGE parameter allows you to specify a URL where your
viewers may go if their browser does not have the proper QuickTime plugin for
viewing your QTVR media. The value we provide here is Apple's QuickTime download
page: "http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download". Different browsers will alert
the user to the fact that they need to download a new plugin in different ways.
Netscape 4.5 displays the following window:
If the user elects to not go and get the plugin immediately, a link to the Plugin page remains in the window for the QTVR movie:
Both the CACHE and PLUGINSPAGE parameters are important
enough to include in all of your EMBED tags, but they are not required.
