Creating Objects using Video Player, MoviePlayer, and Edit QTVR Object
III. Using Make QTVR Object to Convert a QuickTime Movie to a QTVR Object Movie
- Either drag and drop your QuickTime movie onto the Make QTVR Object icon or start Make QTVR Object and use "File" "Open..." to open the movie.

Object Data Form
- Your movie will open in a standard QTVR window, along with a form for adding the QTVR Object data that determines how your movie will play as a QTVR Object. Here are some explanations of the most relevant fields you will be dealing with:
- In the "Columns" section you will put the data of that relates to the horizontal motion of your object. This controls what happens when you move the cursor in the horizontal direction when playing the object movie. In the current example, we took 36 images as we rotated the object 360 degrees in the horizontal plane, so 36 is put in the box below "Columns." Since the 36 shots represent the full 360 degree rotation of the object, 0.00 is put in the "Start" box and 360.0 is in the "End" box. The "Wrap" box is checked, because we want to be able to turn the object completely around with no stops. If you made a mistake, and rotated the object counter-clockwise instead of clockwise when you shot the movie, you can correct the error by checking the "Reverse Controls" box.
- In the "Rows" section you put in the data that relates to the vertical motion fo your movie. This controls what happens when you move the cursor in the vertical direction when playing the movie. In this tutorial we restricted ourselves to a single row movie, meaning there was no vertical tilt of the object. Hence 0.00 is put into the "Start" and "End" boxes.
- Checking "Swap Pan & Tilt Controls" swaps the behaviors of moving the cursor in the horizontal and vertical directions.
- The "View States" and "Animate View Frames" data are advanced features that will not be covered in this tutorial
- If you check "Auto-play views," the QTVR Object movie will start playing automatically, until you click on the movie to interact with it. You can have the object movie auto-play by looping back and forth by checking the box for that. You can also manipulate the speed of the auto-play by checking "Sync to frame rate" or by changing the factor in the "Auto-play speed" box.
- Checking "Scaleable" allows the user to zoom in on the object by clicking on the QVTR controller bar's "+" button. Leaving "Scaleable" unchecked disables the zoom button.
- Checking "Enable Translation" allows the user to drag the zoomed object in the movie window when the QTVR controller bar's drag button is pressed. Leaving the box unchecked disables the drag function.
- "Field of View" affects the zoom factor of the object movie when it opens. Increasing the number causes the object movie to open already zoomed.
- "Minimum FOV" sets a limit on how far you can zoom in on the object. Increasing the number limits the amount of zoom more.
- "Mouse Scale Factor" affects how much the object moves in relation to the movement of the mouse. 180.0 indicates that you are viewing 180 degrees of the object at a given time, and the mouse cursor will closely follow a spot on the object as it is manipulated. Decreasing the number will make the object move less with a given movement of the mouse.
- "Object type:" will affect the kind of cursors that will show up for manipulating the object. Selecting "Object" for object type will give you a hand that closes on the object when clicking on the object. This is the standard for most QTVR Object movies.
- You can click on the "Apply" button at any time to see how changes in the object data affect your QTVR Object movie.
- When you are finished entering your object data, select "Save" from the "File" menu to save your movie as a QTVR Object movie with the current object data.

Object Movie
If you wish to remove the object data from a QTVR Object movie, select "Remove Object Data..." from the "Edit" menu and select the object movie you wish to change. This will change the QTVR Object movie back to a regular QuickTime movie.
