This drum is a type made from split cedar and bonded together in a circle, then a green hide is stretched over one side and fastened by rawhide in a uniform fashion around the hoop of cedar wood. The hide is fastened by rawhide and tied around the back creating a handhold on the backside for the drummer to hold the drum. The design on this drum is the Thunder Bird signifying the clan of the person who owns this particular drum. The predominant colors in this design are red, black, and yellow for the thunder bolts on either side of the drum circle. The Thunder Bird itself features a red background with black as the center of the bird. This speaks of the black thunder head and the red is representative of the purifying powers of the Thunders.
