Welcome to our website. The purpose of this website is to inform the public about high-stakes testing in Texas. High stakes testing is a controversial topic in Texas because tests such as TAAS (Texas Assessment of Academic Skills) and TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) are outcome-based assessment instruments that determine whether a child, teacher, administrator, school and others tied into the public education system, have failed or succeeded. This is a huge responsibility for those that serve our children. Further, an urgent issue that is not frequently addressed concerns those children that do not pass the TAAS or TAKS. What happens to those that do not pass the state-mandated exam?
We will examine the history of high-stakes testing, legislative issues, and important research. In addition, a link containing resources to high-stakes testing and education, in general, will be provided. Please begin by reviewing the links to the left of this webpage.
