Goal:
This Web site was created to introduce Japanese culture to American students. With the globalization of our society, it has become very important for American students to develop sophisticated understanding of different societies in the world. This Web site will serve as a comprehensive resource to foster better understanding of world cultures through Japanese food.

Your students will experience through a WebQuest:
- Exploration of restaurants and homes in virtual Japan through our site
- Researching historical, geographical, cultural, nutritional and other information about major Japanese food, through this site and links provided on this site
Based on the exploration and researching, students will build an understanding of Japanese food culture and the nature of Western and Japanese cultures. The process of theses engagements can be framed with various activities (See the sample activities).

This Web site was created with the following use in mind
- 6th graders in Texas
- World culture unit of the school curriculum
- 2 to 5 hours of instruction to introduce world culture of instructors’ choice
However, this Web site can be used for other grades, other states, and other countries, for shorter or longer period of time depending on the types of activities you conduct with this Web sites.

(2) History. The student understands the contributions of individuals and groups from various cultures to selected (4) Geography. The student understands the characteristics and relative locations of major historical and contemporary societies. The student is expected to:
(A) locate major historical and contemporary societies on maps and globes;
(8) Economics. The student understands the various ways in which people organize economic systems. The student is expected to:
(A) compare ways in which various societies organize the production and distribution of goods and services;
(C) explain the impact of scarcity on international trade and economic interdependence among societies.
(15) Culture. The student understands the similarities and differences within and among cultures in different societies. The student is expected to:

Registration Instructions
If you want your students to use the notepad, the tool your students can use to take notes as they explore virtual Tokyo, you need to register your students. If you do not want your students to use the notepad, you do not have to register. Simply have your students log in as guests.
To register:
- Click on Register Your Class on the homepage
- Register yourself as the teacher
- Register your students as groups. The recommended group size for this WebQuest is 4 students per group.
- Assign each group a name and a password that will be easy to remember. These names and passwords are for identifying the saved information that students collect over multiple exploration sessions, not for security purposes.
