FIT Research Personnel
Philip R. Stanforth, M.S., is the Executive Director of the Fitness Institute of Texas and a Lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education. He has over 30 years of university experience teaching, directing fitness programs, performing fitness assessment, and conducting exercise related research. His primary expertise is aerobic and body composition assessment and aerobic conditioning. He has has served as Local Project Coordinator for the multi-centered NIH funded HERITAGE Family Study, co-PI for two other funded studies, and a research team member for a multitude of studies.
Brittany Crim is a registered and licensed dietitian. She has worked in hospitals as both a renal and general dietitian. Brittany has extensive weight management experience, including development and implementation of many successful weight management programs. Her areas of expertise are weight loss, nutrition education, physical activity, and worksite wellness. Brittany is qualified to provide nutrition education to any age group and education level. In addition she is proficient at taking dietary recalls, dietary analysis, and diet prescription. Brittany also has experience in development, implementation, and formal evaluation of health interventions. She has a BS in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, a MS in Nutrition from the University of Alabama, and is currently a doctoral candidate for Health Behavior and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin. Brittany has extensive research experience and has presented her research at national conferences.
Julie Drake completed her B.S. in Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Fitness at the University of Texas at Austin. She has been a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor for over 10 years. Julie worked in a medical fitness and cardiac rehab center for nine years where she was an exercise physiologist and the fitness center supervisor. In addition to her management experience, she gained extensive experience designing exercise programs for weight loss, diabetic, and cardiac patients. Julie also implemented corporate wellness services, educational seminars, new fitness and weight loss programs and assisted with their program’s data collection. Julie currently serves as the Operations Director at FIT where she oversees staff, operations and programs in addition to providing fitness testing, leading exercise classes and designing exercise programs.
