GET FIT

What is GET FIT?
GET FIT is a 12-week exercise and weight loss program administered by FIT staff. This personalized program involves three workouts and one luncheon seminar each week. The workouts consist of a balanced mix between cardiovascular and resistance training, the goal being to maximize weight loss from fat and improve the daily functioning for each participant. The weekly luncheon is a one hour seminar where GET FIT participants bring their lunch and learn from a registered dietician and behavioral specialist advice about healthy eating habits and factors influencing consistent exercise habits, such as barriers and common myths. The lunch meeting is also a time for individual diet questions to be answered and for customization of one’s nutrition or exercise plan. In addition to the exercise and weekly seminar, GET FIT also includes before and after DEXA Body Composition tests allowing each participant to see changes in fat, muscle, and bone (see Body Comp FIT). Finally, each participant receives a binder full of helpful information and behavioral tips designed with personalized goals for the 12-week program, updated research and important resources.

Who Can Participate?
GET FIT is offered to current UT faculty and staff.

What are the Benefits?
GET FIT is designed to not only maximize healthy weight loss from fat, but to also provide the tools to make a life-long change. FIT cares about each participant’s short and long-term goals, and aims to instill an optimal level of lifetime success for each participant. The Fitness Institute of Texas provides appropriate, research based behavioral information to help participants understand what is keeping them from reaching and maintaining their goals. To improve one’s overall health often requires the accountability and assistance of others which GET FIT provides. Evidence from a former participant Bob Wheeler solidifies the mission of GET FIT:

“I’m a big guy, and I didn’t like going four days a week to work out,” said Wheeler. “I did it because I knew it was important to get my body moving and to get in some kind of shape. I lost about 15 pounds and I hope to lose another 10 this coming semester.”

How Much Does it Cost?
GET FIT is only $250 for all 12 weeks and includes before and after DEXA scans with a consultation. Payment is due by September 1st. No refunds will be given after the first day of class.
