Elements of the Generative Activities

DIRECTIONS:

Go to an Activity you are interested in.

(1) It is a generative activity, including your asking for more than one solution.

(2) States clearly what topics need to come 'before' (pre-requisites) and/or includes an interesting lead-in

(3) Challenging for the Grade Level specified

(4) 'Space' is large enough and with interesting possibilities

(5) The space is not too large and will allow certain ideas to emerge as central

(6) Suggested Class Plans including how to structure the whole-class discussion (table, graph, presentations)

(7) Give credible examples of possible responses.

(8) State what themes or big ideas you might focus on in the whole-class discussion.

(9) You give details of materials needed

(10) You state what students are going to use to 'think with' and how they can use these materials to think about the task.

(11) The description of the activity is clear enough so that anyone in the country could read it and know what you wanted them to do in class.

(12) Credible as a day or more of activity.

(13) You state explicitly what kinds of activities could follow or give a detailed sequence of generative activities.

(14) You've tested it with someone at grade level and given details of their responses including images or examples. (OPTIONAL)

(15) If needed you've got details in the directions to keep students from collapsing the possible solutions to a few easy ones.

(16) Return your original proposal and my comments with final project.
