=============
Friday and Saturday - Optional Authoring Workshop
Goals for
Participatory Simulations Summer Workshop 2001
… Gain a good working understanding of Participatory Simulations and HubNet functionality and know how to apply to teaching.
… Use web-accessible database tool to author one- to two-week curriculum units or "curricular trajectories" related to HubNet activities to use in classes.
… Engage in numerous HubNet-based and non-HubNet based activities and use these experiences to discuss the pedagogical possibilities and design principles for developing activities.
… Be introduced to NetLogo programming and modeling emergent phenomena with the goal of authoring starter models and analyzing results from the HubNet activities.
… Emphasize for each Participatory Simulation connections to additional learning resources, current curricula, and State and National Standards (NCTM, NSES, NSTA, and NSTA).
… Leave the workshop with a set of useful activities and curricular trajectories that can be used immediately in classes.
… Begin to understand modeling and
analysis from both agent-based and aggregate perspectives.
Optional Resources to Bring to the Workshop
i Textbooks (or copied pages of the most challenging or interesting topics)
iii Laptop Computers (Ethernet ports available at the workshop and in the Guest House rooms.
iv Any local curriculum or standards documents.
v Attire for the workshop is informal. (Typical Salt Lake City summer weather: Highs in the 90s and Lows in the 70s.)
