Education:
San Diego State University (M.A. Clinical Psychology)
Northern Arizona University (B.S. Psychology)

Year admitted into PhD program:
2003

Current research interests:
My primary areas of research interest right now is in the field of intimate relationships and emotions. Specifically, I am interested in how adult attachment theory may be used to conceptualize differences in rates of infidelity and emotion regulation. Research on infidelity has been slow to accumulate despite findings suggesting that experiences of infidelity are actually fairly common and have significant societal and personal ramifications. In the area of emotions, I am interested in whether different emotion regulation strategies alter the relationship between adult attachment and infidelity. I am also interested in gender differences in emotion regulation and infidelity. Specifically I am interested in the degree to which one identifies with their gender role impacts which emotion regulation strategies are chosen when communicating with their romantic partner, as well as their attitudes and behaviors towards experiences of infidelity.

Year admitted into PhD program:

Current research interests:
My professional interests lie in multicultural training for therapists, ethnic identity development, gender, and issues of concern for Latina feminists. In particular, my research includes examining the intersection of multiple identities, such as gender and ethnicity, and investigating factors surrounding multiple oppressions. While research has begun to examine the relationship between ethnic identity and self-esteem, more information is needed concerning the contribution of factors–such as gender, age, and socioeconomic status–that may influence this relationship. My most recent research interest is in the relationship between procrastination and statistics anxiety. Specifically, I am investigating the role of meta-cognitive self-regulation in reducing both procrastination and statistics anxiety.

My current research interests focus on contemporary trends in adult attachment theory. This year I have begun work on an ongoing research project with Dr. Sherry exploring the roles attachment style, level of self-criticism, and emotional self-regulation have in the coming out experiences of LGBT individuals. Data collection will begin in the spring of 2006.

I am also interested in ethical considerations in the assessment and treatment of diverse populations, the effect attachment style may have on reaction to positive events in intimate relationships, and self-efficacy issues among minority populations.
