Course: KIN 360 Programming for People with Disabilities, P. Buchanan Office: 471-1272/232-9390 Anna Hiss Gymnasium 123 Hours: Class meeting days 1:45-2:30, and by appointment E-mail: buchanan@mail.utexas.edu Text: The following course objectives will be reached through assigned reading, lecture, lab, and fieldwork. Students will have a working knowledge of the following areas as they relate to adapted physical education:
The following are course requirements: Regular and punctual attendance is expected. Missed exams may be rescheduled during the last two weeks of the semester. The make up exam is in comprehensive essay format. Students will spend ten hours in a designated fieldwork teaching environment. Students failing to accurately complete fieldwork hours will earn a zero for that portion of their final grade. Building policy and safety issues require that students wear comfortable, appropriate clothing and non-marking athletic shoes to each class meeting and fieldwork assignment. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to contact another member of class for any information PRIOR TO RETURNING TO CLASS. You are responsible for all information. If you have any questions, or are unclear regarding any information, consult with me immediately and not at the conclusion of the semester. EVALUATION Midterm=30% Examinations will consist of true/false and multiple choice questions from the text and short answer questions from other learning experiences. Final=30% The final examination will not be comprehensive. . The final exam will be administered during the time scheduled in the course handbook. The final will be in AHG 102. Fieldwork=10% Fieldwork consists of ten hours spent in an adapted physical education setting. KIN360 students will work in the role of paraeducator under the supervision of a cooperative physical education specialist. Project=30% This portion of your grade is determined by an individualized project/commitment that you will make to better prepare yourself for a career as an educator. This project must reflect a minimum of ten hours of work. You may choose to make equipment, create a teaching tool, volunteer with children in an active setting, or collect data on a particular topic. Each student must have instructor approval prior to beginning their project. Each student must submit their project idea on a 5x7 index card and meet with the instructor to determine the grading criteria prior to the fourth week of the semester.
