Education Council
Education Council is the college branch of the UT Student Senate and is known as the 'Student Voice for the College of Education.'
President: Emily Cheek, emilychk@mail.utexas.edu
Advisor: Richard Mattingly, Assistant Dean, SZB 216, 471-3223
Mission: To be the “Student Voice for the College of Education” and represent all majors and organizations within the college in the Senate of College Councils. We strive to bring all of the majors together for fun, service and leadership.
About the Council: We are the official channel for student participation in policy-making and the development of student activities within the college. To encourage communication and assure that students' concerns are being heard, the Council has weekly meetings where anyone from the college or other educational fields can bring their concerns or aspirations. We provide volunteer opportunities within the university as well as in the community with such programs as: HOSTS tutoring, Victory tutorials, after school programs, etc. We also staff our college's Annual Career Fair, College of Education Week and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Week.
Membership: Education Council is open to anyone registered in the College of Educations as well as those who are interested in Education or related fields. We ask that you maintain at least a 2.5 GPA and devote at least 8 hours per semester of volunteer work and involvement. Attendance to the meetings is mandatory and the officers plan very vigorously to provide fun and entertaining meetings with useful information.
Meetings are held every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in SZB 416 and usually last about an hour. We discuss issues from Senate, upcoming events and organizational announcements.
Please come to a meeting and check us out! We are always looking for new, enthusiastic members to help put the College of Education on the map!
