Informally known as the “Student Voice for the College of Education,” the Education Council is the college’s arm of the UT Student Senate. The Council is one of the largest COE student organizations, with around 70 members, and is the official channel for student participation in policy-making and the development of student activities within the college. To encourage communication and assure that students’ concerns are being heard, the Council hosts college Town Hall Meetings once a semester at which students may discuss college and university issues and policies. Education Council provides volunteer opportunities, such as tutoring students at Austin-area schools and staffing the college’s career fairs, as well as numerous social events, including the very popular sports challenge between the Kinesiology Club and the Council. Meetings are once a week (Wednesdays, 7 p.m., SZB 238) during the fall and spring semesters and usually feature a guest speaker who is a professional educator or school administrator. Any student with a major in the COE and a minimum 2.5 GPA is invited to complete a membership application (available in SZB 282 or SZB 216).
