Laptop Initiative for Future Educators

NEW! LTC Announces Chad Fulton New Coordinator of LIFE Program: Read More About Chad.

In the fall of 2002, the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin implemented a bold technology program for the professional development sequence of its teacher certification programs in which all students would be required to have a laptop computer. The Laptop Initiative for Future Educators (LIFE) is a comprehensive effort to immerse future teachers in technology-rich environments so that they become competent in using technology learning tools in their instruction.

There are many facets to the successful growth of the program in the semesters since, including the special pricing from Apple Computer for the required MacBook laptops, extensive curriculum revision and training for faculty and students, an excellent technology infrastructure, and a responsive technical support system.
