Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – UT Austin priority deadline March 15, 2012

Prior to submitting your scholarship applications, you must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), as the information from the FAFSA is considered in the award process for a number of the scholarships. The website is http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ The current priority filing deadline for UT Austin is March 31, 2012.

College of Education Undergraduate Scholarship Application

This year's College of Education Scholarship online application is only for students who will be enrolled full-time during the 2012-2013 academic year, and is open from March 1 to March 31, 2012:

Once your completed College of Education Scholarship application has been received, you will be considered for the opportunity to receive one of the 200+ scholarships administered through the College of Education. Notices of awards are typically emailed sometime in July.

Currently enrolled UT students can access the website, complete the application online, and submit it online.

Paper copies of the application are only accepted from students who are not currently enrolled, but who plan to be full-time students in fall 2012. These individuals should use the online application, but print out each page as they go, and submit their completed application by April 30, 2012 to:

Applying for Continuing & Transfer Scholarships

The UT Austin Continuing & Transfer Scholarship Application is available in February of each year and is used to award students for the following academic year. This online application is strictly for continuing students who are eligible to enroll, transfer students who have been officially admitted or have completed an application for transfer admission, AND former UT students who are applying for readmission to The University of Texas at Austin. Students participating in the Coordinated Admissions Program (CAP), seeking admission to UT Austin and waiting to complete the requirements by June 1 to enroll in the fall can also use this online application.

The deadline to submit the UT Austin Continuing & Transfer Scholarship Application is April 1, Midnight (CST), however students nominated for Unrestricted Endowed Presidential Scholarships must apply by February 24, Midnight (CST), and the deadline for students applying for Texas Exes Scholarships is March 1, Midnight (CST).

Austin Independent School District (AISD) Future Teacher Scholarship

Note: Only students who are seeking initial teacher certification in one of the shortage areas listed below are eligible for this scholarship.

The Austin Independent School District, in a collaborative effort with The University of Texas at Austin and other teacher preparation programs in Travis County, has established a fund for future teachers seeking certification in state recognized critical shortage subject areas. These areas include:

  • Special Education
  • Bilingual Education
  • Languages Other than English
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences
  • Technology Applications

Undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate students in their last four semesters of coursework toward an initial teacher certification program in one of these areas are eligible to receive this scholarship if they are full-time students and have a 2.5 UT gpa. Students apply for this scholarship the semester before the first semester they wish to begin receiving the funds. Undergraduates can receive $1000, $1000, $1500, and $1500 for the last four semesters of their program, and post-baccalaureate and graduate students can receive $1500 for each of their last four semesters.

If this applies to your situation, you should see Sue Holzaepfel, Senior Academic Counselor, in SZB 216 to fill out the application, if you are a student in the College of Education; or your UTeach advisor, if you are in Natural Sciences or Liberal Arts.

Remember – After initiating the A.I.S.D. Future Teacher Scholarship contract with your advisor, it must be signed each subsequent semester to be eligible to receive the award for the following semester.

Graduate Student Awards

Eligibility for the following scholarships and fellowships is based upon guidelines established by each department. Consideration for award is made only to those who submit the appropriate application to the appropriate department by the deadline indicated below.

Alexander Caswell Ellis Fellowship in Education – $3000 award

  • Must hold a bachelor's degree from a Texas College/University
  • Graduate student in College of Education with intent to serve adult communities

Submit all application materials by May 31, 2012 to the Graduate Coordinator or Graduate Advisor of your department.
