Advising

Course Advising For Science and Math Education Graduate Students

The Science and Mathematics Education Faculty team up to assist the Graduate Adviser for SME with advising of our graduate students. Each student is assigned a "Course Reviewer" when they are admitted to the program. Two weeks before registration opens (and one week before the official advising week) the student should contact their Course Reviewer for an appointment. If a student tries to contact their Course Reviewer in person, by phone, and by email unsuccessfully, they should contact the Graduate Coordinator and/or Graduate Adviser.  Course Reviewers inform the Graduate Coordinator which students have been advised, then the Graduate Coordinator lifts the students' advising bars in a batch during the official advising week.

Forms

The student is expected to complete their degree plan form and either email it to to their course reviewer or bring a printed hard copy of it to their scheduled appointment.

When a Graduate Student is ready to begin their thesis or enter candidacy in preparation for working on their dissertation, they should ask one or two SME GSC Faculty members to supervise them. The Supervisor will assume the role of Course Reviewer, as well.

Beside the degree plan form, other forms you may need at your appointment with your Course Reviewer are:

Consent for SME 196T, 296T, or 396T Directed Research in Science and Math Education

Consent for SME 398R Report, SME 698A or B Thesis, or SME *99R Dissertation
