In the College of Education, SME members are appointed primarily in the department of Curriculum and Instruction.

What are my SME Degree Plan Options?

The Science and Mathematics Education area provides Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Education (M.Ed.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programs.

Registration Information

There are many parts to the registration process, most of which can be completed through the Office of the Registrar online system. There are times when a student must work through the program office to register or to change his/her registration. Clearing advising bars, adding or dropping courses, and changing the grade status of courses are just a few of the registration tasks that can be completed through the program office. Each of these tasks requires one or more forms to be completed and turned into the program office for processing.

Conferences

Attending regional, national, and international conferences benefits SME graduate students in numerous ways including meeting other math & science education researchers and discussing the latest research developments; disseminating research findings to researchers and teachers; initiating cross-institutional collaborations; and becoming initiated to the national and international communities of math & science education researchers and teacher educators. The value to the faculty are that our SME graduate students return from the conference with the knowledge that they gained at the conference, ready to share with students and faculty in research groups and class discussions, and ready to apply that knowledge to their research. The University of Texas also benefits as  outstanding SME graduate students represent our reputation of excellence to students and faculty from other Universities around the globe and help them to understand what it means when they hear that at UT Austin “What Happens Here Changes The World”.
