Important: Please Purchase AppleCare Protection Plan and the CDs for OSX & Microsoft Office!

AppleCare Protection Plan is required!

  • Make sure that your computer is covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan! The AppleCare Protection Plan is included in the CoE bundle that you are eligible to purchase through the Campus CompUTer Store.
  • If you have already purchased a computer or are using a computer that is not covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan, please purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan at the Campus CompUTer Store.

  • As a student in the LIFE program, you are eligible to purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan separately at a discounted price of $150. Note: This discounted price is only available at the Campus CompUTer Store.

Why is the AppleCare Protection Plan required?

  • Without AppleCare a student has telephone support for only 90 days and hardware coverage for only one year.
  • Approximately 70% of the repairs processed by the staff at our Laptop Help Desk last year involved computers that were over one-year-old. Although the one-year limited warranty for these computers had expired, the students had no out-of-pocket expenses because their computers were covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan.
  • For iBooks, the average cost of a repair is $325, which is more than twice the discounted price for AppleCare.
  • After you graduate, the Laptop Help Desk can no longer provide you assistance. Similar phone support from Apple will cost you $50 per incident if you are not covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan.

Microsoft Office and OSX CDs

Be sure to buy the Microsoft Office and OSX CDs at the Campus CompUTer Store at some point before you graduate!

It is strongly recommended that you purchase copies of the Microsoft Office CD and the OSX CD at the Campus CompUTer Store for $15 each at some point before you graduate. You will need these CDs to reinstall the operating system and/or the Microsoft Office applications in the future. Once you are no longer a UT student, you are no longer eligible for the UT licensed copies of OSX or Microsoft Office. These CDs will cost you substantially more if you wait to purchase them at the retail price after you graduate.

Please direct your questions about this requirement and purchase opportunity to chad_fulton@teachnet.edb.utexas.edu.
