Children With Autism Receive Support From Special Education Grad Students
Thanks to a partnership between the college’s Department of Special Education and Bluebonnet Trails Community Services Center in Williamson County, families of children with autism in the Round Rock area now have an additional support system available to them.

Girls are not avoiding STEM majors and professions because they lack academic preparation or sufficient skills, according to a study from the College of Education. The study is one of only a few to offer a thorough, critical assessment of nationally representative data on STEM skills attainment in high school and subsequent choice of major, broken down by gender.

The College of Education would like to announce the hiring of C. J. Keudell as Assistant Dean for Financial Affairs. C. J. fills the position formerly held by Alice Toungate, who retired in at the end of January.
New UTcreate name Reflects Laptop Program's Maturity
In 2002, the College of Education began a groundbreaking program to infuse the use of technology into its teacher education courses. The Laptop Initiative for Future Educators, in which teacher education students in their professional development sequence were required to have a laptop computer, was the first program of its kind in a public university college of education.
Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk Receives $2.6 Million to Create Middle School Matters Institute
The Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk has partnered with the George W. Bush Institute to launch the Middle School Matters Institute . The Meadows Center, which is housed in the College of Education, will be using a three-year, $2.6 million grant to complete the project.
New Office of Research Support to Help Faculty Gain Grant Funding
The College of Education has launched an Office of Research Support that will offer support and assistance to faculty who are seeking grants from external funding sources.
Stacy Oliver Named Assistant Dean for Development
Stacey Oliver, former Associate Director for Development in the Cockrell School of Engineering, has joined the College of Education as Assistant Dean for Development, effective Jan. 2. Oliver fills the position that was held by Karl Miller.
Preservice Teachers Test Drive Digital Handwriting Recognition Software, Pen Technology
A group of preservice teachers at The University of Texas at Austin's College of Education will be receiving pen-enabled Android tablets this spring to help them with literacy instruction and assessment in the classrooms where they will be teaching.
