Sports Management Students Get Hands-On Experience at International Football Championship June 25, 2012
College of Education sports management undergraduates will have an opportunity to work with international football teams who will be in Austin June 30 through July 7 for the 2012 IFAF Under-19 World Championship.
The U.S. under-19 team is made up of 45 of the top national high school football players from 20 states, and they will be competing at Burger Stadium with teams from American Samoa, Austria, Canada, France, Japan, Panama and Sweden. The U.S. team won the inaugural IFAF Under-19 World Championship in 2009 in Canton, Ohio, and has earned the No. 1 seed this summer.
Dr. Chris Green, an associate professor in the College of Education’s Department of Kinesiology and Health Education, worked with USA Football to organize the event and 15 undergraduates who are in her international sport event management course this summer will be helping at the event. Another 12 sports management students will be doing fieldwork and fulfilling internship requirements at the tournament.
“This will be such a great opportunity for our students,” said Green. “Many of them will be assistant hosts and troubleshooters for the visiting teams.”
