Austin Community College (ACC) District has honored two of the College of Education’s most preeminent scholars and education administrators, naming the district’s executive offices after Dr. John Roueche and Dr. Suanne Roueche.

The Roueches contributed $100,000 to the Austin Community College Foundation to name the offices. The donated funds will be used to establish an endowed student scholarship, with the first scholarships being awarded this fall.

“We are extremely grateful to the Roueches for their gift, which will help students achieve their goals for many years to come,” says Edwina Carrington, chair of the ACC Foundation Board. “The executive offices are a wonderful reminder of their generosity.”

To publicly recognize the Roueches and thank them for their generosity, the ACC Foundation also hosted a reception in their honor.

“This is a fitting tribute to two people who are so dedicated to community college success,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president and CEO. “The Roueches have been instrumental in developing community college educators and leaders, and their work has had a lasting impact here at ACC and across the country.”

Dr. John Roueche, who holds the Sid W. Richardson Regents Chair in Community College Leadership, has been director of the College of Education’s Community College Leadership Program (CCLP) since 1971. During his over four decades as head of the program he has helped it achieve its current status as the preeminent such organization in the nation. The CCLP has prepared and graduated more community college leaders than any other similar program in the U.S.

Dr. Suanne Roueche is a senior lecturer in the Department of Educational Administration and is editor of publications for the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD).

The Roueches have mentored more than 200 community college CEO’s, including five of ACC’s presidents.
