Sue Holzaepfel and Jennifer McHam, academic advisors in The University of Texas at Austin’s College of Education, have been named winners of the Texas Exes’ James W. Vick Award for Academic Advising. The award is the highest accolade the university bestows for excellence in advising, and there are five recipients campus-wide this year.

Created in 1992, the Vick Award is presented in the spring to academic advisors who exhibit superior expertise and have had an exceptionally positive influence on the educational experience of University of Texas at Austin students. Students from every academic area on campus can submit nominations for the award and a student selection committee selects the winners.

This year’s award recipients will be recognized at a special luncheon on March 9 in the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center.  Each honoree will receive a certificate and $500. Past honorees also will be present at the luncheon to join in on the celebration of the outstanding advisors’ contributions to the campus.

In the past 19 years, the College of Education has had 11 winners (including this year’s two). Richard Hogeda, an academic advisor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education, has won the award twice and Holzaepfel has won three times.
