Field Wins National Kappa Delta Pi Award - August 25th, 2009

Headshot of Dr. FieldDr. Sherry Field, Associate Dean for Teacher Education, Student Affairs and Administration in The University of Texas at Austin’s College of Education, has been honored with Kappa Delta Pi’s O.L. Davis, Jr., Counselor of Distinction Award.

Kappa Delta Pi is an international honor society in education, and the Davis Award was created to honor university counselors around the nation who exhibit excellence in service, personal scholarship, professional development, leadership in their Kappa Delta Pi chapter and mentorship of the chapter’s student leaders. It is the highest honor that Kappa Delta Pi presents to its counselors.

In addition to her Kappa Delta Pi involvement, Field oversees advising, degree evaluation, field experiences, career services, induction and educator certification for undergraduate College of Education students as well as all other University of Texas at Austin students seeking Texas educator certification. She is a professor in the Department of Curriculum Studies and Social Studies Education and holds a Fellowship in the Lee Hage Jamail Regents Chair in Education.

Dr. O. L. Davis, Jr., the scholar for whom the national award was named, is a professor emeritus in The University of Texas at Austin College of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Davis served as the chapter counselor of the Delta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi at The University of Texas at Austin for more than 40 years and was Kappa Delta Pi Society president for the 1980-82 biennium. In 1994, he was named to the Laureate Chapter of the Society, and later he and his students established a Laureate Doctoral Scholarship through the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation.
