Grant Supporting Study of Community College Student Success and Engagement Awarded to CCLP Student- October 29, 2008
Maryellen Mills, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Educational Administration’s Community College Leadership Program, has been awarded the Paul P. Fidler Research Grant to support her dissertation research on the relationship between student success courses and engagement among community college students.
The Fidler Research Grant is awarded by the University of South Carolina’s National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. It was created to facilitate scholarly research on issues related to college student transitions and includes a financial stipend of $5,000 as well as travel to two national conferences.
Mills, who currently is serving her doctoral internship at Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, Texas, will present findings from her grant-funded research at the National Resource Center’s 2009 conference in Salt Lake City.
Dr. Patricia Somers, an associate professor in the Department of Educational Administration, is Mills’ dissertation chairperson.
