Dr. Angela Valenzuela
Dr. Angela Valenzuela, an associate professor in the College of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction and director of the Texas Center for Education Policy, has been chosen as a member of the National Education Task Force. The task force is a Congressional advisory committee comprised of scholars who do policy work in the areas of education assessment and accountability.
A major thrust of the committee’s work will be examination of the No Child Left Behind Act’s reauthorization, and the group includes members from a wide array of fields, including math, science, physical education, reading, social studies and languages. The task force will be presenting its research and recommendations to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Congressman George Miller, who is Chair of the Education and Workforce Committee in the 110th Congress.
Valenzuela also recently was honored with a Fulbright scholarship. The scholarship will allow her to travel to Mexico and study how Mexican and U.S. institutions can work to expand human rights – particularly educational opportunities - to immigrants in the U.S
