Dr. Svinicki Receives AERA Lifetime Achievement Award - May 21, 2007

Dr. Marilla Svinicki

Dr. Marilla Svinicki, a professor in the College of Education’s Department of Educational Psychology, has been honored with the Wilbert J. McKeachie Award for lifetime contribution to the study of faculty evaluation and development. Svinicki received the award from the American Educational Research Association’s (AERA) Special Interest Group on Faculty Evaluation at the AERA’s spring meeting.

Svinicki, who has been with The University of Texas at Austin for over 30 years, teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in cognition and learning and is a leader in the field of faculty development. She has studied technology use and cognitive functioning, the development of graduate students as teachers and the development of classroom community. Her primary area of research is the application of learning and motivation to instruction design.

The AERA is the most prominent international professional organization whose primary goal is the promotion and advancement of educational research and its practical application. Its 25,000 members are educators, administrators, directors of research, counselors, evaluators, graduate students and behavioral scientists.
