Education Ceremony Information
The commencement ceremony being held for undergraduate students in the College of Education is scheduled for Friday, May 18, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. in Gregory Gym. Degree candidates should plan to arrive by 11:00 a.m. to allow adequate time for ceremony preparation. Tickets are not required for family or guests. The ceremony is expected to last around 1 1/2 hours.
This ceremony is only for undergraduate students earning a Bachelor's degree or completing a Post-Baccalaureate teacher certification program. Graduate students should contact the Graduate School for information about graduate student convocation.
University-Wide Commencement Information
The 129th Spring University-Wide Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. at The University of Texas at Austin Tower.
Education Commencement Speaker
Mrs. Vaughn Gross is a College of Education alumna (1967, Elem. Ed.) and is currently Chair of the College of Education Foundation Advisory Council. A longtime educator; the former principal of Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet School in the Richardson, Texas school district; and a former assistant superintendent of the Richardson ISD, Mrs. Gross and her husband, Tex, are dedicated to the continuing development of teachers and their students. In 2004, The Texas Center for Reading and Language Arts, was renamed the The Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts, in recognition of her three decades of contributions to Texas schools.
Parking
Parking for Commencement activities is free in designated areas and all parking garages on a first come, first served basis. Convenient parking for Gregory Gym will be located in the Brazos Parking Garage located at MLK and Brazos. Disabled parking and drop off area is available along Speedway (west of Gregory Gym). Additional parking information is available at the Parking and Transportation Web Site.
Academic Regalia
Degree candidates participating in the College of Education Commencement Ceremony will wear academic regalia. Academic regalia and invitations are available for purchase from the University Co-op. The tassel and stole color for the College of Education is light blue.
Special Assistance for Graduates & Guests
The Gregory Gym staff is prepared to make accommodations for all graduates and/or guests needing special assistance. Event staff will be available to assist persons needing special assistance. Special seating has been designated for guests in need of assistance.
