Professional Development Sequence (PDS)
The Professional Development Sequence (PDS) is a sequence of field experiences and professional development courses leading to teacher certification. Students apply during the long semester prior to entering the PDS, and the length of the program varies by certification program. Students seeking certification in EC-6 ESL Generalist may apply for summer, fall, and spring entry into the PDS, while EC-6 Bilingual Generalist may apply only for fall and spring entry into the PDS. Students seeking certification in Special Education or Fine Arts (Music, Theatre Studies, Dance Studies) may apply for fall entry only. Students seeking certification in Physical Education and Fine Arts (Visual Arts) may apply for spring entry only. The PDS application runs February 1 to March 1 for summer and fall entry and September 1 to October 1 for spring entry.
