"Day Off" Policy

MISD does not participate in the "Day Off" compensation for cooperating teachers.

Substitute Policy

The following conditions must be met before a student teacher will be permitted to substitute teach:

  • The decision of a student teacher's readiness to assume substitute teaching duty must be unanimous among the student teacher, university faculty member or supervisor, cooperating teacher, and campus principal. However, the student teacher has the final decision as to whether he/she would like to substitute teach when requested to do so.
  • The student is only allowed to substitute teach for the cooperating teacher(s) to whom he/she is assigned during the student teaching assignment.
  • The student teacher must provide all necessary documents and complete all required paperwork and training through the Human Resources Office.  Visit the Substitute Information Web page for further instructions regarding the application process for substitute teachers.

Substituting must also adhere to the following program conditions:

  • Student teachers may only substitute after the mid-term point of the semester.
  • Interns are not permitted to substitute.  However, special permission may be granted through Dr. Sharon Evans, Director of Education Services.
