Round Rock Independent School District Substitute Policy
Guidelines for Student Teachers Serving as Substitutes
In the Round Rock Independent School District, the following conditions must be met before a student teacher permitted to substitute teach for pay:
- The decision of a student teacher's readiness to assume substitute teaching duty must be unanimous among the student teacher, university faculty member or supervisor, school district's campus principal. However, the student teacher has the final decision as to whether he or she would like to substitute teach when requested to do so.
- The student is allowed to substitute teach for the cooperating teacher(s) to who he or she is assigned.
- The rate of substitute pay for the student teacher will be equivalent to the rate of pay for a regularly assigned substitute teacher employed by the school district.
- The student teacher must complete a System Entry Data form and a From W-4, Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate prior to a substitute assignment. Copies of the Data form and Form W-4 may be obtained from the Substitute Coordinator in the Administration Building or by calling 464-5034.
Once the student teacher has completed the required number of weeks in his or her assignment satisfactorily, the student teacher may at that time apply to become a substitute teacher on a full-time basis as needed by the school district throughout the remainder of the semester of the school year. However, the student teacher must submit a completed application prior to regular substitute assignments.
Questions relative to using student teachers as substitute teachers may be directed to the Coordinator of Substitute Teacher Program in the Financial Services Office.
