SUBSTITUTE POLICY

Guidelines for Apprentice Teachers Serving as Substitutes

In the Leander School District, the following conditions must be met before an apprentice teacher is permitted to substitute teach:

• An apprentice teacher may substitute after the required weeks are complete for apprentice teaching.
• Cooperating teachers will receive a free day after apprentice teaching required weeks are complete. The apprentice teacher will substitute on that day without pay.
• If apprentice teachers would like to continue substituting after the free day, he
  or she must attend district substitute training. Then, the apprentice teacher may substitute for the cooperating teacher and others.
• After the apprentice teaching is over, he or she must contact personnel to register for the next substitute training available.
