Our department continues to be ranked among the top 10 programs nationally for special education programs. Among our faculty are nationally and internationally recognized scholars in the fields as learning disabilities, assistive and instructional technology for students with disabilities, autism and developmental disabilities, and multicultural special education.
Graduate Students
Reflecting the faculty's superior leadership in scholarship, research, and teaching, the Department of Special Education is currently ranked 6th in the nation (U.S. News and World Report, 2005). Offering five Master's (M.A. and M.Ed.) and six Doctoral (Ed.D. and Ph.D.) areas of specialization, we are confident that we can assist you in achieving your personal and professional goals! Students who already hold teacher certification in elementary or secondary education may complete requirements for special education certification. Additionally the department offers coursework leading to professional certification examinations while pursuing a graduate degree (e.g., Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor). Please keep in mind that these options typically require additional credit hours beyond degree requirements.
Undergraduate Students
