The Student Dean's Office provides Advising Handouts in PDF format for download.

The Student Dean's Office (Sanchez Bldg. room 216) coordinates undergraduate advising in the college. Students pursuing majors in Applied Learning and Development should be advised in the George I. Sanchez Building Room 216. Students pursuing majors in Kinesiology and Health Education should be advised in Bellmont Hall Room 1005. To schedule an appointment with an advisor, call (512) 471-3223 for advising in the Sanchez building; or (512) 475-6146 for advising in Bellmont Hall; or stop by the office.

8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday

Advising Hours:

8:30 to 11:30 am and 1:15 to 4:30 pm

We recommend that you visit an advisor in your major area at least once a semester.

Undergraduate Advisors

Sue Gamel Holzaepfel
Sue is an Ohio State and Ohio University graduate who advises current and prospective students, coordinates the AISD Future Teacher Scholarship program, oversees advising for the Bilingual and ESL programs, and serves as the staff advisor for the Bilingual Education Students Association.

Jason Gentry
Jason is a Texas A&M Corpus Christi graduate who advises current and prospective kinesiology and health eduction students, and coordinates a residential First year Interest Group (FIG).                

Antoinette S. Hart
Antoinette is a graduate of Western Kentucky University who advises current and prospective students, manages the College of Education orientation program, coordinates recruitment and retention services, and serves as the staff advisor to  the Minorities in Education student organization.

Richard Hogeda
Richard is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin who advises current and prospective kinesiology and health education students, oversees the day-to-day operation of the Kinesiology Advising Center, and serves as the Staff Advisor to the Kinesiology Club.

Jennifer McHam
Jennifer holds a bachelors degree from Missouri State University and a masters degree from the University of Central Missouri. She advises current and prospective Applied Learning and Development students, coordinates a First-year Interest Group (FIG), is the staff advisor for Teachers of Tomorrow (TOT), and coordinates special events for the College.

Diane Selken
Diane holds both a bachelors and masters degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She advises current and prospective students, coordinates a Transfer Interest Group (TrIG), and is the staff advisor for the organization Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC).

Jessica Silva
Jessica Silva is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin who advises current and prospective kinesiology and health education students and helps with special projects in the Kinesiology Advising & Career Center in BEL 1005.

Middle Grades, Secondary and All-level Certification Advising

Students working on an undergraduate degree who wish to be middle grades, secondary or all-level (EC-12) teachers must graduate with a major in the college which houses their teaching field, and must follow the advising rules and procedures in that college.

Students interested in pursuing teacher certification in English language Arts and reading, history, social studies, or languages other than English should consult an advisor in the UTeach Liberal Arts program, (512) 232-2789.

Students interested in pursuing teacher certification in math, science, or computer science should consult an advisor in the UTeach Natural Sciences program, (512) 232-2770.

Students interested in pursuing teacher certification in art, music, or theatre should consult an advisor in their major department.

Questions about certification that cannot be answered in these colleges or departments should be directed to an advisor in SZB 216, (512) 471-3223.
