The specialization in Multicultural Special Education (MCSE) is designed to prepare doctoral students prepares graduates to work in a variety of settings including higher education, leadership roles in schools and districts, and research. The program addresses the unique needs of individuals with disabilities and their families from diverse socio-cultural and linguistic communities. Students develop competencies needed to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate educational services, engage in field-based practicum activities and receive the mentoring needed to apply new learning concepts in schools, clinics, and other service delivery settings. In addition, students are encouraged to specialize in a disability or policy area. Students are encouraged to become involved in research projects under the direction of faculty in the Department of Special Education.
