YMCA Pool Operator on Location (P.O.O.L.)

The YMCA Pool Operator on Location course provides training for cost-effective, safe and sanitary operation of aquatic facilities. The national certification for this eight-hour training program is through the National YMCA of the U.S.A. The course covers the areas of pool chemistry, water treatment and filtration, testing procedures, disaffection systems, maintenance, spas, codes and regulations, as well as aquatic safety. The National YMCA POOL textbook will be used for this training. Fee includes text, training and certification. GUARDSTART: LIFEGUARDING TOMORROW COURSE NUMBER 34650

Purpose: American Red Cross GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow is a program for youth that provides a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge, attitudes and skills for future successful completion of the Red Cross Lifeguarding courses. Additional class times will be available but are not required. Prerequisites: Swim the front crawl for 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side. Tread water 1 minute using arms and legs. Submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet underwater. Report to TSC on the first day. Please bring a suit and be prepared to swim. SHALLOW WATER ATTENDANT COURSE NUMBER 00000

Purpose: To teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatics emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries in shallow water. This course is not intended for the shallow part of an area or attraction that also has deeper water. Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15 yrs. Swim 50 continuous yards. Starting in the water, swim 20 yds using front crawl or breaststroke, submerge to a depth of 4 feet, retrieve a 10-lb object, return to the surface, walk 20 yds back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 50 seconds. Report to TSC on the first day. Please bring a suit and be prepared to swim. Required Books and Materials: American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Stock No. 655731); Pocket Mask; First Aid Fanny Pack (optional); Whistle and Lanyard.

WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDING COURSE NUMBER 34610

Purpose: To teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies both in a pool and at a waterfront environment. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15. Swim 550 yards (about 500 meters) continously. Starting in the water, swim 20 yds using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-lb object, return to the surface, swim 20 yds back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Swim 5 yds, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yds apart in 4-7 feet of water, resurface and swim 5 yds to the side fo the pool. Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid and American Red Cross AED/CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate. Report to TSC on the first day. LIFEGUARDING INSTRUCTOR r.2006 - COURSE NUMBER 34700i

Purpose: To train instructor candidates to teach basic level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding*, Watrpark Lifeguarding* and Shallow Water Attendant (all including first aid), Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission adn Basic Water Rescue courses. Instructor candidates also will become familiar with GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow and the Water Safety presentations. Prerequisites: Be at least 17 yrs of age on or before the last scheduled day of the instructor course; possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) Certificate issued within the last year or possess a current national Health and Safety Services Instructor Authorization Certificate (This class DOES include Fundamental of Instructor Training. WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR (r.2004) COURSE NUMBER 3490i

Purpose: Train instructor candidates to teach watar safety, including the Basic Water Rescue course, six levels of the Learn to Swim and Parent and Child Aquatics, Water Safety Instructor aide and Longfellow’s Whaletales. In addition, eligible participants will be able to learn how to teach the Safety Training for Swim Coaches course. Prerequisites: Be at least 16 years of age by the last scheduled session of the instructor course. Possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) certificate issued within the past 12 months or have a current Health and Safety Services Instructor Authorization (F5736 or C3005). BASIC WATER RESCUE COURSE NUMBER 3440

Purpose: To provide individuals such as public safety personnel, aquatic fitness instructors and aquatic therapists, with information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and resond to aquatic emergencies. This course will also prepare individuals for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others. Prerequisites: None, but because there is an in-water skills session, it is recommended tha tparticipants be comfortable in chest deep water. This course teaches the participant about inherent hazards when around and in the aquatic enrivonment. The participant will learn how to help a swimmer in need of aid and how to survive in the water when necessary. Please report to TSC and PLEASE BRING A SUIT. Meet the requirements for the City of Austin safety ordinance. Three CEUs are available. CPR/AED FOR THE PROFESSIONAL RESCUER, COURSE NUMBER 3214

Purpose: To teach thosue with a duty to act (professional rescuers) the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automatedi external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest. This class is designed to train participants with advanced resuscitation skills used in professional health care environments.
