Founder of Homeless World Cup to Keynote 2013 Conference of the North American Society for Sport Management

The North American Society for Sport Management has announced Mel Young as the keynote speaker for the 2013 NASSM Conference to be held at the Hilton Austin Downtown (May 28-31). His talk, “How a Ball Can Change the World,” will highlight the evolution and convergence of social entrepreneurship and sport for development. Mel Young is the President and co-Founder Homeless World Cup - an annual tournament that unites teams of homeless people from all around the globe. Supporting grassroots soccer programs and social enterprise development via a network of 70+ national partners, the Homeless World Cup uses the power of football to energize homeless people so they can change their own lives. Mel Young is recognized as one of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and a Schwab Fellow of the World Economic Forum. He co-founded The Big Issue in Scotland in 1993; co-founded Senscot (Social Entrepreneurs Network Scotland); and is the former President and Honorary President of INSP (International Network of Street Papers). He is a lifelong supporter of Hibernian Football Club and is the author of Goal: The Story of the Homeless World Cup.
