LAB MEMBERS
The primary aim of our research group is to study the etiology and prevention of health risk behavior among adolescents and emerging adults. Specifically, we are interested in how the longitudinal interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors impacts health risk behaviors such as substance use, sexual risk taking, and aggression. One current line of research involves understanding the role of pubertal timing, how developed one is compared with peers, on adolescent risk taking. Another area of study regards the longitudinal patterns of cigarette smoking and alcohol use throughout emerging adulthood. An important focus of our research group is the utilization of person-centered statistical methods (e.g., latent growth curve analysis, latent class analysis) to address the individual variability inherent in the development of and engagement in health risk behavior.
